Acne has been my issue since highschool days. I remember my major breakout during my sophomore year where my cheeks were full of cystic acne. I couldn’t cover them with my hair because I was wearing a hairnet all the time, as a requirement for my COCC training. It was really uncomfortable. Proactiv was already popular by that time and Jessica Simpson (a famous singer in the early 2000s) swears by it. But since I’m still a student, I couldn’t afford it. So I opted for the cheaper alternative like Extraderm – millennials will surely relate to this. Gladly, my acne became lesser especially when I started going to skin clinics for facial treatments. Until I reached college, my cystic pimples were finally gone. But even I’m old now (I’m in my 30s btw), I still experience having “breakouts” once in a while.
So when I received a PR kit from Proactiv, I thought to myself, “After so many years, I can finally try this famous skincare brand.” Let’s see if my skin will be as smooth as Jessica Simpson’s or maybe Kendall Jenner! 😛
Proactiv claims to help you achieve all your skincare goals.
So they came up with a 3-Step Clear Skin System with a new Salicylic-acid based formulation. It is an effective solution to control and balance oily skin, reduce visible pore size, and make skin smoother and brighter.
The kit consists of (1) Skin Smoothing Exfoliator – to cleanse and smooth, (2) Pore Targeting Treatment – to target and clear, and (3) Complexion Perfecting Hydrator – to hydrate and refine. This kit will help to clear blemishes, improve visible texture and clarity, diminish the look of dark marks and hydrate, and soften skin. Using this 3-step skincare will also prevent future breakouts.
I have this 60-Day Kit sitting in my vanity for quite some time. It took me time before I decided to use it mainly because I have acne-prone skin. I actually have a friend who ended up with more acne after using this. So it’s scary. But still, I took a leap of faith and used it. May facial clinics naman dyan haha. Also, I’m the type of person who’s very lazy using too many products. I have tried the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine for a few weeks but ended up just using the facial cleanser, toner, and serum alone. So this 3-step system is a big YES for me.
The transition from my previous skincare to Proactiv was smooth.
No purging stage or whatsoever in the first few days and I was really positive about it. Until I reached my 5th day, that’s when I noticed two new pimples came out. Then more pimples started to appear in the following days. Despite the effect, I still continued until my 4th week, hoping all the bumps would disappear. Sadly, it has reached until both of my cheeks feel dry and super rough. That’s when I decided I’ve had enough and I should stop using it. Maybe this is not for me.
Oh well, at least I’ve tried.
I posted some clips in my Instagram Stories (follow me if you haven’t @mommy_rockininstyle_blog).
I also talked about my Proactiv experience in this video.
