If you’ve got a new interior to design, you’re probably ridiculously excited. After all, this is your chance to express yourself creatively and create a space that you can feel relaxed and at home in. When you’re moving home it can be difficult to feel at home right away, which is why you want to get your interior design game face on and figure out what to do. Here are some ideas that should help you to get started!
Make it easy from the beginning
Make it easy for yourself right from the beginning. When moving out of your old home, get rid of things you really don’t want to take with you. It can be difficult not to start hoarding at times like this, but if you want your new home to feel like a fresh new space, you’re going to want to avoid replicating your old home as much as possible. Plus, the more you get rid of, the less you have to give a removals company such as Chess Moving to transfer over to your new house. You can start with a fresh blank canvas!
Decide on a colour scheme
Before you buy a single new piece of furniture or ornament, you need to decide on your colour scheme, and even a theme if that is going to help you to stay on track. Knowing your colour scheme beforehand will stop you from wasting money on things that just don’t seem to fit right in your interior. Take a look at a colour wheel if you need help, and you’ll be able to see which colours complement and contrast nicely. Two colours work well, but so does three to four. Avoid using too many, as it can start to look too chaotic.
However, the rules are there to be broken, and if you’re confident in your skills then you go ahead and mix as many colours as you like! It’s usually best to pay attention to the way you proportion your colour scheme to make it work. For example, deciding on the colour you’ll use most, second-most, etc. Using equal amounts can just look strange.
Make a collage or Pinterest board
Maybe you have a vague idea of what you want your new space to look like, but you’re still getting confused by all of the amazing ornaments, furniture, and paints you’re seeing out there. To help you get more clarity on what it is you want, make a collage or use a Pinterest board to help you figure it out. When you do this, you can notice emerging patterns and feel confident that what you’re choosing will work for you.
Spend your money wisely
Don’t go crazy when you go shopping for ornaments and furniture, even if you have a large budget. It can be too hard to swap a sofa if you suddenly decide that it doesn’t work in your interior. Instead, invest money in things you know you’ll love. If you don’t find a sofa you love right away, hold out for the right one. Don’t settle!
