Many are surprised every time I tell people that both of my parents are gone.
We may have the saddest story a family could ever have, but I’m certain God has a better plan for us; for me and my brother. In spite of sorrow, loss, and pain, our lives had to move on. Bearing all the teachings our parents bestowed upon us.
One of my mom’s teachings is to remain positive despite hardships and trials. She has proven this when she has lost the love of her life (my dad, of course) and moved forward to be able to provide for us. And five years later, when we already coped with the loss of our father, unknowingly and unexpectedly we will soon face another heartbreak.
My mom was diagnosed Stage 4 Breast Cancer.
But instead of fear and despair, I saw hope and faith on her pretty face. That this chapter of our lives is a test from above that will make us stronger and closer to God. She has undergone several and different medications and procedures that made her body weak. But her will is unbreakable as I saw in her eyes that she wants to conquer her sickness. Lalaban siya hangga’t kaya. Unfortunately, after 2 years of battling cancer, her body gave up and joined our Creator. But during those 2 years of battle, I never saw her falter, instead, she has shown the true strength of a mother, never letting those trials stop us from living and enjoying life.
Now that I have my own family, I will use what I’ve seen and learned from my mom’s legacy. To remain strong and positive to whatever challenge our family may come. #TibayNiNanay
