Health Comes First on World Health Day – Safeguard celebrates putting family first at the first Health Watch lecture

Β
In celebration of the upcoming World Health Day on April 7, Safeguard launches Health Watch, a lecture series aimed to equip Filipino moms with the information and the skills that they need to continue to keep their family healthy.Β
Β

The first Health Watch lecture happened last April 6, 2016 at Romulo’s Cafe in Makati City.

Safeguard in partnered with UNICEF and Philippine Red Cross promotes health and hygiene and First Aid basics including proper wound care to all mommies who attended the lecture.Β
Β
For 50 years, Safeguard continues to beΒ committedΒ to promoting health and hygiene, making the brandΒ synonymous with family germ protection. Consistent with this mission, Safeguard understands that mothers strive to keep their family healthy by staying updated on current healthcare issues. Β
Β
Our first lecturer is Dr. Mariella Castillo of UNICEF where she shared figures about the State of Filipino Children’s Health. According to a report entitled “A Decade of Tracking Progress for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Survival” conducted in 2015, the Philippines is among 26Β countriesΒ which have contributed to 80% of global deaths of children under 5 years old. She also shared the top 3 child mortality causes which are (1) neonatal conditions 45%, (2) pneumonia 18%, (3) injuries 8% and (4) diarrhea 7%.Β

Most parents are not aware of the simplest and most cost-effective solutions for some of the critical diseases.

Early and exclusive breastfeeding is the most effective preventive measure to save newborn lives. I have been exclusively breastfeeding my son for 14 months which helps to keep him away from diseases.Β
Β
Breastfeeding remains a cornerstone to prevent deaths from pneumonia and diarrhea. For both these illnesses, safe water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions are critical.Β
Β
Β
Proper sanitation is equally important among moms as the First Aiders before treating their children’s minor burns and wounds. Parents must be aware that the first important step is washing their hands before treating their children. Washing the wound with soap and water for 5 minutes also greatly reduces the chance of infection, tetanus, scarring, and tattooing of the skin from dirt left in the wound.Β

The last part of the discussion was about the proper bandaging demonstrated by Ms. Ruby of the Philippine Red Cross.Β

Β
Whether it’s a serious disease like diarrhea in an everyday complaint like a new wound from playing outside. Mom has to be on alert to keep her family protected. The trusted name in family germ protection –Β Safeguard is my family’s partner in health.Β
Β
On World Health Day and beyond, Safeguard puts your family’s health first. 50 years of protection, 50 years of Safeguard. HEALTH COMES FIRST.Β
