How I Prepare Baby’s First Food

Babies no matter if they are exclusively breastfeed or formula-feed or mixed feed are allowed to start taking solid foods when they reach 6 months. Well, some including my pediatrician allowed my little one (LO) to start by 4 months which I did not comply. Sorry Doc! I believe that breastmilk is the only thing our babies needs during their first 6 months.

So why does a baby needs to reach 6 months before taking any solid foods? Here’s why

I started doing my research for my lo’s first solid foods when he reached 5 months. I’m excited yet a bit worried, excited because it is a milestone for him. Worried because what if lo doesn’t want kalabasa or other vegetables and he prefers to just drink his bm (breastmilk) as this is the main dilemma of other mommies I read.  But I have high hopes for my LO, matakaw yun e LOLS.

I started considering what are the things I should buy during the preparation, I was eyeing to buy NutriBullet or Magic Baby Bullet but thankfully, my mother-in-law let me use her Shake and Take Blender so we save a lot. Since we already have Avent Breastmilk Containers we could use it as food storage too.  I just bought ice cube trays with cover for less than 100php for 3 pieces.

Since I have extra time to prepare lo’s food, I never opted to buy him processed foods such as white rice cereal. Wanna know more why? HERE. Of course, as all mothers do, all we want is what is BEST for our babies.

Lo is going 7 months now and below are the foods he tried:
– pumpkin
– carrot
– potato
– sweet potato
– sayote

– apple
– pears
– banana
– avocado

For vegetables, apple and pears, I cut them into cubes and boil them until it gets tender. Mix breastmilk in the blender until it has a smooth consistency.

Aside from my Avent Breastmilk Storage I also use ice cube trays with cover and keep them in the freezer. Once they are frozen, I transferred them to a ziplock to save space.

I am very happy that lo was able to eat all of them. Good job Anak!
Hope you find this post very helpful.
Let me know if I have something I missed that I can feed to lo so I can try them.

Thank you very for reading!

Much Love,
